His name is Jack chen, the Engineer of arrows hobby company.

Arrows Hobby SZD-54 2000mm PNP Complete Assembly Guide

This glider uses snap-click fit design; no glue required. 85% factory pre-built.
Required equipment (Not included in PNP):
  • 6-channel RC Transmitter + Receiver
  • 3S 11.1V LiPo battery (1300C2200mAh, XT60 plug)
  • LiPo balance charger
Main Wing Install
Horizontal Stabilizer
Elevator Pushrod
Wingtips

Step 1: Main Wing Assembly (Most Critical Step)

  1. Insert the threaded metal wing spar into the fuselage opening. Use the supplied metal locking key to tighten the spar firmly.
  2. Route servo wires from left & right wing halves through the fuselage wing cutout.
  3. Slide each wing half onto the spar and push inward until you hear a clear "click" (fully locked).
  4. Connect wing servo plugs to the two supplied Y-harnesses:
    • One Y-cable for Ailerons
    • Second Y-cable for Flaps
Do NOT force fit wings; check wiring is not pinched between wing & fuselage.

Step 2: Horizontal Stabilizer (Tailplane)

  1. Slide the horizontal stabilizer straight into the tail slot on the fuselage.
  2. Push fully forward until an audible click confirms locking.
  3. Keep elevator servo at neutral position on your radio. Attach elevator pushrod: connect to the outermost holes on servo arm AND elevator control horn.

Step 3: Install Wingtips (Winglets)

Slide each wingtip into the outboard end of main wings, slide toward the rear of aircraft to lock in place.

Step 4: Receiver Wiring Setup

Plug servo harnesses into your receiver following this channel mapping:
  1. Channel 1 Aileron
  2. Channel 2 Elevator
  3. Channel 3 Throttle
  4. Channel 4 Rudder
  5. Channel 5 Spare
  6. Channel 6 Flap
Tuck all loose wiring neatly into the cavity inside the battery hatch area.

Step 5: Battery Installation & CG Check

  1. Open the canopy latch and remove battery hatch.
  2. Attach hook-and-loop tape to your LiPo battery. Secure battery inside fuselage with built-in straps.
  3. Connect XT60 battery plug to ESC plug.
CG (Center of Gravity): 45C60 mm back from wing leading edge at root
Shift battery forward/back to hit correct CG. Wrong CG causes unstable flight!

Step 6: Pre-Flight Control Test

  1. Power on transmitter FIRST, then connect flight battery.
  2. Check all surfaces respond correctly:
    • Ailerons: Stick right right aileron up, left down
    • Elevator: Stick back elevator deflects upward
    • Rudder: Left stick rudder moves left
    • Flaps: Channel 6 dial/slider lowers both flaps evenly
  3. Verify folding prop spins freely with throttle input.

Important Safety Notes

  • Always disconnect battery after finishing flying.
  • Do not fly with loose click-fit components; re-seat any part that does not lock with a click.
  • EPO foam is brittle against sharp impacts; handle wings carefully during assembly.
  • For thermal/gliding flight, set low throttle; use flaps for slower landing approaches.

Arrows Hobby SZD-54 2000mm Radio Setup Template

Target aircraft: SZD-54 2m sailplane (PNP, aileron + flap equipped glider)
Channel standard (Mode 2 transmitter C most common):
CH1: AileronCH2: ElevatorCH3: ThrottleCH4: RudderCH6: Flap

1. Basic Travel & Subtrim (Baseline Values)

Use these as starting point, fine-tune after assembly.
  • Aileron travel: 22
    Low rate: 65% | High rate: 100%
  • Elevator travel: 18
    Low rate: 70% | High rate: 100%
  • Rudder travel: 25
    Low rate: 75% | High rate:100%
  • Flap travel:
    Position 0 (Cruise): 0
    Position 1 (Thermal/Slow): 12C15 down
Position 2 (Landing flap): 25C30 down
Set all servos to neutral before installing linkages!

2. Critical Mixes (Must set for glider)

Mix 1: Flap Elevator (Elevator compensation)

When you deploy flaps, the nose will drop automatically. Add this mix to counteract:
  • Mix: FLAP ELEVATOR
  • Direction: Positive (elevator rises slightly with flaps)
  • Slow flap setting: +6%
  • Landing flap setting: +12%

Mix 2 (Optional): Aileron Rudder (Coordinated turn)

Prevent slip in thermal turns
  • Mix: AILERON RUDDER
  • Value: +15%
Activate only on HIGH rate flight mode.

3. Flight Mode Switch Suggestion

Use a 3-position switch for flaps (CH6):
  • Position UP: Cruise (0 flaps C normal soaring)
  • Position MID: Thermal flaps (12~15 flaps, slow flight for thermals)
  • Position DOWN: Landing flaps (max flaps for short landing)

4. Throttle Setup (Powered sailplane)

This is a motor-assisted glider; avoid high throttle continuously.
  • Throttle curve: Linear default
  • Recommended flight practice: Use throttle only for launch/climb. Cut throttle once at altitude for pure gliding.
  • Safety tip: Program throttle cut switch if your radio supports it.

5. Differential Aileron (Strongly recommended)

Gliders benefit from differential to avoid adverse yaw:
  • Up aileron travel: 100%
  • Down aileron travel: 70C75%

6. Pre-flight radio checklist

  1. Transmitter ON first, then connect flight battery
  2. Confirm all control surfaces move in correct direction
  3. Toggle flap switch through all three positions, check elevator compensates automatically
  4. Switch high/low rates and verify travel changes
  5. Test motor response: throttle up prop spins forward
  6. Double-check CG at 45C60 mm behind wing leading edge (wing root)

7. Flight tuning tips

  1. If model wants to climb when flaps deploy: increase FLAPELEV mix value
  2. If model yaws heavily during turns: increase aileron-rudder mix
  3. If turns feel sluggish: slightly raise high-rate aileron travel
  4. For windy days: fly mostly on low rates, avoid full elevator input

Futaba Setup GuideArrows Hobby SZD-54 2000mm (Mode 2)

Applicable for T10PX / T16IZ / 18SZ / 14SG / 8FG (all modern Futaba transmitters).
Receiver Channel Assignment (follow strictly):
  • CH1 Aileron (Y-harness both aileron servos)
  • CH2 Elevator
  • CH3 Throttle
  • CH4 Rudder
  • CH6 Flaps (Y-harness both flap servos)
Critical precondition: Create a new model, set model type = AIRPLANE (ACRO), NOT GLIDER mode.
Set all servos to neutral before connecting pushrods.

1. Reverse Servos (REVERSE menu)

Test each surface, reverse if direction wrong:
  • AIL: Stick Right Right aileron UP, Left DOWN
  • ELE: Stick Back Elevator UP
  • RUD: Stick Left Rudder Left
  • FLAP: CH6 switch down Flaps deflect downward

2. Travel Adjust (TRAVEL ADJUST) C baseline values

Channel High Rate Low Rate
Aileron 100% 65%
Elevator 100% 70%
Rudder 100% 75%
Flap Cruise=0% / Thermal=15% / Landing=30%

3. Dual Rate & Expo (D/R & EXP)

Assign a 2-position switch (e.g. SW-A) for High/Low Rate
  • Aileron Expo: -22%
  • Elevator Expo: -20%
  • Rudder Expo: -15%
Maiden flight: ALWAYS fly on LOW rate.

4. Aileron Differential (AIL DIFF C Highly Recommended)

Menu: LINKAGE AIL DIFF
  • Up aileron: 100%
  • Down aileron: 72%
    Reduces adverse yaw during turns.

5. Programmable Mixer Setup (PROG.MIX 1 & 2)

Mix 1: FLAP ELEVATOR (Flap compensation C MOST IMPORTANT)

When flaps deploy, nose drops; this mix adds up elevator automatically.
  • PROG.MIX 1
  • Source: FLAP
  • Destination: ELEV
  • Mix value: +12%
  • Switch: SW-F (3-position flap switch)
  • Curve: Linear
Tuning tip: If aircraft dives when flaps down increase to +15%; if climbs sharply lower to +8%.

Mix 2: AILERON RUDDER (Coordinated turn)

  • PROG.MIX 2
  • Source: AIL
  • Destination: RUD
  • Mix value: +15%
  • Switch: Same D/R switch (Only active on HIGH rate)
  • Curve: Linear

6. 3-Position Flap Switch Assignment

Use Futaba 3-position switch SW-F
  1. SW-F UP = Cruise: Flaps 0 (0% travel)
  2. SW-F MID = Thermal slow flight: Flaps 12C15
  3. SW-F DOWN = Landing flaps: Flaps 25C30
How to set fixed flap positions:
  1. Open LINKAGE FLAP SETTING
  2. Set offset values for each switch position to lock 3 fixed flap angles.
If your radio lacks dedicated flap setting: Adjust CH6 travel limits for each switch position inside programmable mix.

7. Throttle Configuration

  • Throttle curve: Linear
  • Enable THROTTLE CUT (assign spare switch) for safety.
Flying tip: Use motor only for climb; cut throttle to thermal glide.

Pre-Flight Radio Checklist (Do every flight)

  1. Transmitter ON FIRST connect flight battery
  2. Cycle SW-F three positions: confirm flaps move stepwise, elevator compensates upward
  3. Toggle D/R switch; verify control travel changes
  4. Test aileron stick: check coordinated rudder movement on high rate
  5. Verify motor spins forward with throttle up
  6. Confirm CG: 45C60 mm behind wing leading edge at wing root

In-Flight Fine Tuning Tips

  1. Aircraft pitches down with flaps raise FLAPELEV mix
  2. Yaw outwards during turns increase AILRUD mix
  3. Slow thermal flight feels unstable slightly reduce landing flap angle
  4. Windy weather: stay on LOW rates, avoid large elevator inputs
